She’s Dating the Gangster by Bianca Bernardino
Genre: Romance, Young Adult
Published: 2013 by Summit Books
It all started when 17-year-old Athena Dizon unwittingly plays a trick on resident heartthrob and bad boy, Kenji de los Reyes. All of a sudden, she finds herself pretending—unwillingly at that—to be his girlfriend to make his ex jealous.
Now, not only does she have to deal with dirty looks from the girls in school who want Kenji for themselves, but her supposed boyfriend is getting on her nerves. He’s hotheaded, never seems to agree with her on anything—and everything about him screams gangster.
Has Athena gotten herself into more trouble than she can handle? Or has she actually found herself a boy she can call hers—gangster be damned?
She’s Dating the Gangster is a book written by Bianca Bernardino. I have read this book way back in 2009 or 2010 since I have downloaded it before. It was originally posted in Candymag’s forum, Teentalk.
When the book came out, I really felt excited since it’s like a dream come true for me as well. I am one of the lucky few who got the chance to read the original version of the story. I wanted to buy it ASAP but since my schedule wouldn’t permit from doing so, I needed to wait for a couple of days. Since I really want to buy this book, I even asked my sister to buy one for me in Makati. Guess what? She got mad at me! She said I already read it before, so what’s the point of buying the book? I simply said, this version is edited and this is a book!
So after that, I even asked some bookstores if they allow reservations. Good thing, Fully Booked answered my tweet! They reserved a copy for me in SM North – The Block. The next day, I immediately went there. So my routine was school – SM North – school. I literally went to SM North just to buy the book and I went back to school at once. When I got my copy, I wanted to scream out loud and take a picture of it at once but I’m to shy to do that so I did that when I got home.
So for the real review. Basically, the story is still the same. Athena and Kenji are still the main protagonists of the story. But obviously, the story was cut short. But truth be told, the story kept its effect to the readers. I was still getting that kilig feeling when I’m reading the story and I got teary eyed towards the end of the story.
The use of words are good since it could easily be understood by the readers. The POVs are really in character. It’s not like other online stories that the POV of the guy character tends to be more of a female POV.
All in all, this story is a must read!
